It wasn’t just the “Greed is good” decade. The 80’s were also a period of marked cultural vitality that saw the emergence of such artists as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, David Salle, and Kenny Scharf. The decade and its influence will be the focus of a sale at Phillips de Pury tomorrow, featuring contemporary art, photographs, and design.
Top lot is expected to be Jean-Michel Basquiat’s “Six works,” a series of drawings showcasing his draftsmanship that’s expected to sell for $150-$250,000. Other highlights include “Fucile,” a 1982 painting by Enzo Cucchi (est. $80-$120,000), Kenny Scharf’s “Untitiled (Head),’ a 1987 work, and Keith Haring’s “Untitled,” a 1982 drawing (est. $10-$15,000).
