There it sat in the storeroom of a London art supply store for 40 years until the shop owner died and they found a Francis Bacon painting called, “Crouching Nude on Rail,” that Christie’s will auction next month in New York. It could go for $10 million or more. An unidentified American owner consigned it.
Also discovered with the “nude” were nine other canvases that, together, are now being called “one of the greatest art discoveries in modern times.” Bacon and the owner were close friends and apparently they forgot about the paintings soon after there were done in the 1950’s. They were never seen until discovery in the 1990s when the store closed down.
