Way back then, N.C. Wyeth traded one of his paintings for some work by a tradesman, according to Skinner Auctioneers. The work will be sold at their American & European Paintings&Prints sale in Boston on January 28th.
The painting, done when Wyeth was 23-years old, was part of a 1905 commission for the Saturday Evening Post illustrating a piece about the Hudson Bay Trading Company. It remained in the tradesman’s family for 50-years. The auction estimate is $300,000-$500,000.
