Last year Andrew Lloyd Webber sold ,“The Absinthe Drinker,” a well known Picasso portrait of a bluish-green man who looks like he has been drinking something strong, for nearly $52m. This week Webber announced he’s giving away all the proceeds from that Christie’s sale.
At a time when England is drastically cutting back government support for the arts, the “Phantom Of The Opera” composer announced the money will go to a charity group that provides therapy using music; another that organizes performances by children, with more UK charities yet to be named.
