Some claim it’s the greatest movie ever made by one of the greatest actors who ever lived. In 1942 “Citizen Kane” got 9 Academy Award nominations, but won only one, best screenplay for Orson Welles. The actual statue disappeared for decades, but it resurfaced and Nate D. Sanders is selling it through an online auction. Current bid is $72,800.
Sanders reports the original thought to be lost had all along been in the possession of cinematographer Gary Graver, who tried to sell it in 1994. Welles’ daughter learned of her father’s treasure up for sale and filed suit in California, stopping the transaction, and returning the piece to the family, who displayed it at the 75th Academy Awards show.
