Forget about the record $30m price paid last year for a Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic. The new record holder, at $35m, is a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO, built for legendary U.K. driver Stirling Moss. Technology billionaire Craig McCaw reportedly bought the Ferrari last month from a Dutch-born businessman.
The apple-green Ferrari is one of 39 GTOs produced from 1962 to 1964. “The market is very active at the moment,” said James Cottingham of U.K. Ferrari dealer DK Engineering. “A lot of new buyers are expanding their collections.” McCaw co-founded McCaw Cellular, which AT&T acquired for $11.5 billion in 1993.
