Nazi Chief Joseph Goebbels’ Papers To Sell
September 24, 2012Once, Hitler’s propaganda chief Joseph Goebbels was a romantic young man who penned love letters, plays, poetry, and a novel. The collection of papers, which Alexander Auctions is offering in an online sale ending Friday, traces the development of an “easily swayed college student with Marxist leanings” into “a radical Nazi and rabid anti-Semite,” according to Alexander’s President, Bill Panagopulos, The trove, which is described as being in perfect condition, is expected to sell for $200,000-$300,000.

July 20, 2011Nazi war criminal Josef Mengele, Auschwitz’s ‘Angel of Death,’ was known for his grotesque medical experiments on camp prisoners. From 1940 until his 1979 death by drowning in Brasil, he kept a series of journals numbering more than 3,000 pages. Alexander Historic Auctions of Stamford, Connecticut will auction these journals, as well as Mengele’s letters, short stories and poetry on July 21, when they’re expected to bring $300,000-$400,000.
Update: The journals sold for “just under” $300,000. The sale provoked criticism from Holocaust survivors who objected to the seller–and auction house–profiting from the works of a mass murderer.
