Winston Churchill Cigar At Auction
April 16, 2013The unsmoked Cuban stogie that Cheffins will be selling early next month in Cambridge, England belonged to the U.K.’s most celebrated cigar aficionado, Sir Winston Churchill. That is, at least once it did. Churchill passed out this ‘La Aroma De Cuba, Habana’ cigar to a gent who’d come from Rover to present the former PM with a Land Rover on Churchill’s 80th birthday. At Cheffins’ sale on May 2nd, the cigar is expected to fetch $615-$923.

August 14, 2012On his 80th birthday, Land Rover presented Sir Winston Churchill with a unique Series 1 model, outfitted with a particularly wide rear seat to accommodate his aristocratic girth. With a chauffeur at the wheel, Churchill used the car to explore the 300 acres of his Kent estate, Chartwell, which is now owned by the National Trust. At his death, the car passed to Churchill’s son-in-law. Still in its original configuration, with just 12,932 miles, the 1954 Rover is expected to sell for $78,000-$94,000 at Cheffin’s Vintage sale in the U.K. on October 20th.

June 06, 2011It isn’t often a 1912 Flanders comes up for auction, much less one with 6700 miles. The model 20 that Cheffins will auction in Cambridge, England on July 23rd spent much of its life displayed in a hardware in Lebanon, Indiana and was restored in 1976. Exported to the UK in 1999, it’s expected to sell for $33,000-$49,000.

Lawrence’s “Lady Chatterley’s Lover” was considered too risqué to be produced in England, so the first edition of 1000 numbered copies was printed at Orioli in Italy. Cheffins, in Cambridge, England, is selling one of these numbered copies, signed by D.H. Lawrence, at its Specialist Books, Maps and Prints sale on February 23, when it’s expected to fetch $4000-$4850.
