A Fancy Intense Pink rectangular-cut 14.23-carat diamond ring sold today at Christie’s in Hong Kong for $23.16 million. It was the most expensive jewel ever sold at auction in Asia –a new high in a $78.9 million sale that set a record for a jewelry auction in Asia.
All top ten lots at the sale exceeded the million-dollar mark. A pear-shaped diamond of 12.29 carats on a pink diamond necklace fetched $3.55 million, and a marquise-cut 16.72-carat diamond brought in $3.1 million. Asian buyers predominated at the sale, where prices for Burmese rubies and Kashmir sapphire were also exceptional.
