Elvis Presley was a bit of a nut about custom sunglasses. In his Hollywood years he broke them a lot, and would get them repaired at the Optique Boutique. They’d give him a replacement and fix this particular pair he wore for 3 performances. He didn’t pick them up after the last repair job and they sold yesterday at Heritage for $22,500.Fans at Elvis’ shows in Las Vegas, Indianapolis, or Dayton in 1974 might recognize these iconic shades known as Elvis’ “Tiger Man” glasses. A cardboard, life-size cutout of Elvis made to stand in movie lobbies for “Love Me Tender” went for $20,000. They cal them “standees.” They’re rare because crazed fans destroyed most of them before they could be preserved. The auction of all things Presley was staged in Memphis.
