Rock legend Jimi Hendrix is believed to have painted just one watercolor, aptly titled “Flower Demon.” Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Donovan remembers Hendrix telling him “he used to paint like this as a kid.” Whatever its antecedents, the painting has a gilded past, having been exhibited at the Tate Museum, Liverpool, the Kunsthalle museum in Frankfort, and the Whitney Museum in New York. When it comes up for sale at Bonhams’ Entertainment Memorabilia auction on June 26th in Los Angeles, it’s expected to realize $60,000-$80,000.
Fans of Rock Hudson will also find a lot to like at the auction, which features a trove of memorabilia related to the ‘50’s hunk. Among the offerings are his birth, baptism, and 8th grade graduation certificates, his high school report card and yearbook, his divorce documents, passport, a Tiffany shaver, Kenyan driver’s license and a trove of overcoats. Other featured items in the sale are a beaver fur top hat that Lucille Ball wore in an episode of “I Love Lucy” that guest starred Harpo Marx (est. $20,300-$30,460), and a 1960 Gibson RS-330TD guitar owned by Eric Clapton (est. $25,000-$35,000).
