High-End Real Estate Auction Roundup

April 19, 2012

A home site on the legendary Pebble Beach golf course, a professional equestrian facility in Ocala, Florida, and a lakefront estate in Texas are just a few of the properties heading to the auction block in coming weeks. Read more in our regular high-end real estate auction roundup. The training ground for four Breeder’s Cup champions, Padua Stables is an equestrian facility located on around 763 acres of countryside in Ocala, Florida. For the owner, there’s an 8-bedroom, 5.5 bath home, along with a guest house, and housing for staff. The horses don’t do too badly either. There are 11 barns with 202 stalls, as well as a ¾ mile track and 1 miles turf track designed by Dennis Moore, whose credits include Santa Anita, Hollywood Park, Lone Star and Ruidoso. Additional facilities include covered hot walkers and round pens, a stallion breeding center, training facility, and executive office complex that includes a 7000sf dormitory with 22 rooms and 13 homes for managers, staff, or guests.  Other structures include 3 maintenance buildings, a hay/feed storage building, and three greenhouses. For relaxing, there’s a lake and boat dock with lift. Come May 31st, it will be auctioned in two tracts.

Another impressive lakefront estate that’s heading to auction is located in Nacogdoches, Texas. Around 18 acres come with the 9000sf house, which features a Great Room with stone fireplace and glass atrium, a game room, and study along with 4 bedrooms and 6.5 baths. Expansive decks extend the house, looking out on the grounds, which offer a trophy Bass Lake, greenhouse, and operational blueberry farm. An additional 64 acres are available, which will be sold in tracts. It’s all coming up for sale on May 10, when it will be sold at an absolute auction, meaning it will go to the highest bidder, regardless of price.

A recent entry to the auction market is a 58-acre country estate on the Maryland’s eastern shore.  Located in Chesapeake City between Baltimore and Philadelphia and close to the Chesapeake Bay, the 6 BR, 7 BA home overlooks pasture and a stocked pond. Other features include a sunken great room, 3 fireplaces, a 2 story formal foyer, exercise room, and an artist studio with soaring ceilings. For leisure, there’s an outdoor heated pool, hot tub, sauna, whirlpool and tennis court. Formerly on the market for $3.85m, it will require a minimum bid of $1.2m at a May 12th auction.

Should you want to start from scratch, a 1.1-acre home site along the legendary Pebble Beach golf course will be auctioned on May 3rd.  One of only 34 properties that directly front the golf course, it offers 185 feet along the links. This is only the second time in 93 years that the property has become available. At the moment, it’s the only vacant, ready to build parcel on the golf course. Located on the famous 17-mile drive, the site has views of the 11th and 12th greens, as well as of Carmel Bay, Point Lobos, Carmel Point and the Pacific. Previously offered at $12m, it will have a minimum bid of $7.95m.

Tuscan Village, Anyone?

July 5, 2012

Many dream of one day owning a villa in Tuscany. For those with even grander notions, however, an entire Tuscan village has come on the market—on eBay, of all places. Pratariccia is a collection of 25 cottages and almost 20 acres of hilltops above the Casentino Valley, about 25 miles from Florence. Abandoned for 50 years, the medieval village is owned by a religious order that has embraced eBay after failing to sell the town for an asking price of a bit more than $3m.
