High-End Real Estate Roundup

March 30, 2012

Choose between retreats in the North Georgia Mountains, the Grand Tetons, and Southern California’s Hidden Valley, where a variety of luxury estates are heading toward the auction block. Read more in our high-end real estate roundup.

The Dobie Mountain Lookout is located in the North Georgia Mountains, less than an hour and a half from Atlanta. Completed in 2008 and originally listed at $2.995m,  the 3200sf retreat sits on 2.85 acres overlooking the Cohutta Wilderness area. Its builders made its green qualities a high priority. There are 185-year-old log walls reclaimed from a Pennsylvania dutch countryside wheat trashing barn, and douglas fir “corn blasted” timber beams from certified forests, along with antique reclaimed “nail board” bar wood from circa 1800’s barns in the Virginia/West country and mountainsides. A massive stone fireplace sits in the open living and dining area, and there’s a pavilion with stone fireplace for cooking and entertaining. Within the home’s living space are a master suite, two additional bedrooms, a recreation room with fireplace, and an additional 1,500sf of outdoor living space.  Scheduled for auction on April 15, the cabin has a starting bid of $950,000 and a buy it now price of $1.995m.

Out west, in the Grand Tetons, another mountain retreat is heading toward the block. This one is located in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, a ski-in, ski-out luxury “cabin”—if a cabin can be said to be 13,194sf. Completed in 2008 and three years in the making, it offers 9 bedrooms , 10 full, and 4 half-baths. On 2.5 acres, it’s in a private forested setting in the Granite Ridge Estate section of the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. Its exterior is composed of timber, cedar and Montana stone. Among its outdoor features are 11,000sf of heated drive and deck suraces, a circular drive with porte cochere, a waterfall, Montana Frontier sandstone decks with firepit, wood burning fireplace, grill area, and a pool lined with gold –yes, that’s gold—tile. The auction’s on April 7th.

Another substantial home is coming up for auction in southern California. “Heartridge “ estate sits on 20 acres in Hidden Valley, near Los Angeles. Within its more than 10,000sf are 6 bedrooms, and 9 full baths. It’s constructed in a Queen Ann Victorian style, with a cross-gabled steep pitched roof, detailed with varying patterns of shingles and turrets. Among its many appointments are a master suite with fireplace, sitting room, and luxurious bath. There’s a state-of-the-art theatre seating 10 with its own concession stand, a Great Room with views of the Santa Monica Mountains, and a tower study/office. A veranda wraps around the house, looking out on the herb garden, fruit orchard, and the saltwater pool. Originally listed at $15m, it will be auctioned on April 28 with no minimum bid required.
