Antiquorum Offers Half-Million Dollar Watch

March 07, 2011

A vintage Patek Philippe wristwatch is expected to fetch as much as $500,000 at Antiquorum’s New York watch sale on March 10th.  Sold by Cartier in 1950 and in exceptional condition today, the reference 2419 18K yellow gold watch has an oversized crown, repeaters slide and subsidiary seconds display.

Another rare offering is a recent Jaeger-Lecoultre platinum “Reverso Gyrotourbillon 2” (est. $220,000-$270,000), one of a limited edition of 75.  Fans of Patek Philippe will also be interested in the 2002  “Celestial Wristwatch,” ref. 5102 on offer (est. $180,000-$200,000). The 18k white gold wristwatch is full-featured, to say the least,  displaying mean time indication, a nocturnal sky chart of the Northern Hemisphere, moon phases and moon orbit and time of the meridian passage of Sirius and moon. It also presumably tells time.

Top honors went to a limited edition A. Lange & Sohne Pour Le Merite Tourbillion wristwatch, which sold for $357,086. It was a new world auction record for the watchmaker.

Once Again, Patek Phillipe Scores Record Price

April 27, 2012

Antiquorum thought they might get $800,000 for a rare platinum Patek Phillipe at its auction this week in New York, but following spirited bidding an American buyer paddled down $902,500, the highest price ever paid for a single dial Patek Philippe Ref. 3974. Several other Patek Phillipes at the sale also achieved record prices.

Rare Patek Philippe May Fetch $800,000

April 9, 2012

What sort of a wristwatch can you buy for $600,000-$800,000? If timepiece auctioneer Antiquorum’s estimate is correct, that would be a platinum Patek Philippe Ref.3974. The ultra-rare astronomic, minute repeating, self-winding platinum timepiece will be the highlight at Antiquorum’s sale on April 25th in New York. The next four most valuable lots in the auction are also Patek Philippes, whose expected prices range from $400,000 all the way down to $100,000.
