The Hong Kong wine market continues to soar, as demonstrated by this past weekend’s record-breaking sales at Acker Merrall & Condit and Christie’s. The two houses reeled in over $15 million, with every bottle at both auctions selling.
920Â lots sold for $8.8 million at Aker—fully 30% above their highest estimates–while Christie’s scored $6.2 million. Together with Sotheby’s, the three leading wine sellers in Hong Kong are expected to bring in a record $200 million this year, which would double last year’s profits. The big draw: the “trophy” label Bordeaux.
